Frequently asked questions

How do I turn a photo into a cross-hatch drawing?
Choose your photo and adjust Line Spacing for fine or broad strokes. Ink Strength controls the shading, Stroke Angle rotates the hatch directions, and Paper Texture adds subtle grain.
How does cross-hatching create shading?
Highlights stay mostly clear. Midtones receive one set of ink strokes, while darker areas gain additional crossing directions. Overlapping strokes build up the shadows.
Which images work well for cross-hatching?
Portraits, architecture, and landscapes with clear light and shadow work well. Increase Ink Strength for pale images, or reduce it to keep dark photos from becoming too dense.
Does Cross Hatch preserve transparency?
Yes. The drawing keeps the original dimensions and transparency. Transparent pixels do not contribute to nearby shading, and paper texture stays inside visible areas.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Cross Hatch runs locally in your browser, with no login or watermark.
What file formats can I export?
You can export as PNG, JPEG, WebP, TIFF, BMP, or HEIC.
Is this tool free to use?
Yes — completely free, no account needed. Your images are processed entirely in your browser and never uploaded to a server. Downloads have no watermarks.
