→Frequently asked questions
- What size is an Indian passport photo?
- 35x45 mm. Passport Seva uploads use 630x810 pixels as a JPEG under 250 KB. This tool exports 630x810; compress the file if it is over the limit.
- How big should my face be?
- Indian passport photos need a large face, about 80–85% of the frame (36–38 mm chin to crown). The tool sizes it to 82% by default; adjust with the head size slider.
- Does the background have to be white?
- Yes, plain white with no shadows. Keep the background toggle on to replace your background with white automatically.
- Is the old 2x2 inch size still valid?
- Current Passport Seva rules use 35x45 mm. The 2x2 inch (51x51 mm) format applies to some other services, such as OCI, so check the specific form.
- Can I wear glasses?
- No. Glasses are not allowed in Indian passport photos. Keep a neutral expression with both eyes open and visible.
- What file formats can I export?
- You can export as PNG, JPEG, WebP, TIFF, BMP, or HEIC.
- Is this tool free to use?
- Yes — completely free, no account needed. Your images are processed entirely in your browser and never uploaded to a server. Downloads have no watermarks.
